The fast food chain has been planning to shift its headquarters for quite some time. Reports claim that the burger maker is in talks with developer Sterling Bay to create a 300,000 square foot campus in Chicago as its new headquarters.

The headquarters shifting is expected to take place in 2018.

The current headquarters of McDonald's is located in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Illinois. It employs more than 2,000 people at its headquarters.

There was a time when the company came very near to shifting its headquarters nto One Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago, but the deal fell through last September.

Last month, at the company's annual shareholder meeting, McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook said: "We will leave no stone unturned and we will also consider where the best location for the office is and the best facilities. If you want a world class team you've got to provide a world class environment."
