A man got killed and an officer and another person suffered bullet injuries after police and a suspect exchanged gunfire in Boise on Tuesday.

The incident happened at 11:42 p.m. near Bridlewood Circle and North Glenwood Street, not far from Capital High School.

Boise Police officers responded to the report of a shooting and they found a man standing outside a home. The man opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them.

The officers opened fire in retaliation, killing the suspect. The man was later identified as 53-year-old Alan Amundson of Kuna by Ada County coroner. His cause of death is listed as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The officer who got hit was wearing a ballistic vest, and he did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

"Our hearts and prayers go out for last night's shooting victim as we await an update on his condition," Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said in a statement.

According to police, Amundson and the victim knew one another. Bones added that the detectives are trying to gather more information about the incident.
